Recovery at Any Age: Providing Treatment for Older Adults with Complex Medical and Psychiatric Needs

Presentation Excerpt:

Few providers have experience treating older adults with lifelong mental health struggles. Developing a culture of support embracing the whole person is especially important for recovery in older adults with mental health conditions. Providing appropriate support for this population involves increasing provider competency in issues specific to aging and enhancing skills to navigate the complex systems of care.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify at least three common medical conditions older adults experience and describe the associated symptoms.

  • Participants will be able to demonstrate an understanding of creating a recovery environment for older adults with mental health conditions

  • Describe four areas of need for older adults with complex medical and psychiatric conditions.
