Bakersfield Recovery Station Featured on Local News

The Bakersfield Recovery Station was featured in a local KGET news segment where Bill Walker, Director at , was interviewed about the program and how it will serve the community.

The Bakersfield Recovery Station is a brand-new program model and the second substance use treatment services (SUTS) program that 色中色 operates. The 10-client, short-stay, voluntary program provides screening, access, and linkage to care for individuals with co-occurring mental illness and substance use needs. Services are strength-based and person-centered and aim to promote recovery in a welcoming setting.

Another unique component of the program: it is peer-lead.

鈥淭here鈥檚 tremendous research that shows that by having people with lived experience similar to the person they are working with, it is easier to bridge and speak and get them to start accepting delivery of services,鈥 said Bill. 鈥淭his program is based on using peers as a fundamental component of the staffing in order to make that instantaneous connection so that we can get them to accept service delivery.鈥

The program opened on June 1, 2020. 色中色 plans to open another recovery station program in Delano in June as well.
